Dolly Rebecca Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton was created on January 19 1946 in Pittman Center (Tennessee). She was born to Avie Lee Parton and Robert Lee Parton in Sevierville. Parton is a homewife and Parton is a tobacco farmer. At the age of 12, she began performing on Knoxville TV and at 13, she was already recording with an obscure label and performing on the Grand Ole Opry. After having graduated from high school in 1964, she relocated to Nashville to launch her country-singing career. She fell in love with Carl Dean, who ran an asphalt-paving company. They got married on May 30, 1966 and are still together. Porter Wagoner hired her in 1967 to perform on his show The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). The show lasted for 7 years, their duets went viral as well as she appeared with his group at the Grand Ole Opry; she also toured and sold records. By the time her hit "Joshua" was ranked #1 in the year 1970, her popularity had eclipsed hers and she went out on her own, while still recording duets alongside him. She had left him and began her solo career in 1974. Dolly was a hugely loved singer/songwriter. Dolly was honored with numerous Country Music Association awards (1968-1971, 1971, 1975-1976, 1975-1976). The petite (5'0") beauty was a perfect fit for television. In the mid-1970s, she was often appearing on talk shows, and even before getting her own Dolly (1976). In 1977, Dolly got her first Grammy award: Best Female Country Vocal Performance for her hit song "Here You Come Again." Dolly's film debut came in 9 to 5 (1980) in which she received an Oscar nomination for her composition of the title track, as well as Grammy awards 2, 3, Best Country Song, and Best Female Country Vocal Performance for the track "Nine to Five." Dolly gained more attention for being in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), and in Rhinestone (1984) with the hit song "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises is her media empire that is worth $100 million. In 1986, she established Dollywood, a Tennessee theme park located in Pigeon Forge. This was to honor her Smoky Mountain upbringing. She was in the Dolly (1987 TV series) as herself. She was awarded a second Grammy in 1988, this time for Best Country Performance Duo/Group with Vocals for "Trio".
